How to make bulk transfer on Startbutton's dashboard

If you've ever had to transfer money to ten different accounts in a single afternoon, you know how it goes. You open the first transfer, enter the account number, double-check the bank name, type the amount, add a narration, and confirm. Then you do it again. And again. Forty minutes later, you're on transfer seven, and you're no longer confident you entered the amount correctly on transfer four.
Manual bulk transfers aren't just slow — they're where mistakes happen. A transposed digit in an account number. A mismatched amount against an invoice. A narration that doesn't match the payment it describes. Errors that only surface during reconciliation, at the worst possible time.
We built the bulk transfer feature to take that process off your plate entirely. Prepare your file, upload it, preview it, confirm it. The system handles the rest.
Who this is for
This feature is built for any business that regularly sends money to multiple recipients at once, including:
Payroll teams are processing salary payments across a staff list
Marketplace operators are settling vendor or partner payouts
Finance teams managing high-volume disbursements across multiple accounts
Agencies and platforms paying contractors, freelancers, or service providers
Any business that currently processes transfers one by one and wants a faster, more accurate alternative
What you will need before you start
Before logging into the dashboard, you'll need a CSV file with the following columns for each recipient:
Column | What to Include |
|---|---|
Account number | The recipient's bank account number |
Bank name | The recipient's bank |
Amount | The exact amount to be transferred |
Narration | A description of the payment (e.g., "August salary" or "Invoice #0042") |
Don't have a CSV ready? Startbutton provides a downloadable CSV template inside the bulk transfer flow. You can download it, populate it with your data, and upload it directly.
How to send a bulk transfer
Step 1: Prepare your CSV file
Before you log in, have your recipient list ready in CSV format with the four required columns: account number, bank name, amount, and narration. If you're unsure of the format, skip ahead to step 4 to download the template first, then come back and populate it.
Step 2: Log in to your Startbutton dashboard
Sign in with your account credentials and head to your main dashboard.
Step 3: Navigate to "Transfer funds"
From the side navigation bar, click on Transfer funds.
Step 4: Select "Bulk transfer"
You'll see options for how you want to send. Select Bulk transfer to open the bulk transfer flow.
Step 5: Upload your CSV file
You'll see an option to upload your prepared CSV file. If you haven't prepared one yet, download the CSV template available on this screen, populate it with your recipient details, and then upload it.
Step 6: Preview and check for errors
Once your file is uploaded, the system displays a preview of all the transfers in your file. This is your checkpoint — review each entry for errors, missing information, or anything that doesn't look right before anything is processed.
Common things to review at this stage:
Account numbers are complete and correctly formatted
Bank names match the account numbers
Amounts match what was intended for each recipient
Narrations are clear and correctly assigned
If anything looks off, you can go back, correct your CSV file, and re-upload. Nothing is processed until you confirm.
Step 7: Confirm the transaction
Once you've reviewed the preview and everything looks correct, confirm the transaction.
Step 8: The system processes your transfers
From here, Startbutton handles the rest. The system processes each transfer in your file, sends funds to the specified accounts, and generates notifications for successful transactions. You don't need to monitor each one individually — the system tells you what went through and what needs attention.
Why this matters
The obvious benefit of bulk transfer is time; what used to take an hour of manual entry takes minutes. But there are two less obvious benefits worth noting.
Accuracy: When you prepare a CSV file, you're working from a source document which can be a payroll spreadsheet, a vendor invoice list, or a contractor payment schedule. The data you upload is the same data you've already verified. You're not retyping account numbers from memory or a phone screen. You're uploading from a file you've reviewed. That's a fundamentally more reliable process than entering transfers one by one under time pressure.
Auditability: Every bulk transfer you process through Startbutton is recorded in your transaction history with full detail, amounts, recipients, narrations, and status for each entry in the batch. When your finance team or auditor asks for a record of last month's vendor payments, it's all there, exportable in seconds using the transaction export feature.
A few scenarios where this changes your workflow
Monthly payroll
Build your payroll CSV once with your staff's account details. Each month, update the amounts and narrations, upload, preview, and confirm. Payroll that used to take an hour of individual transfers takes under five minutes.
Vendor settlements
If you run a marketplace or work with multiple service providers, bulk transfer lets you settle all vendor payouts in a single batch at the end of each period — no individual transfers, no manual reconciliation against a separate payment list.
Contractor payments
For teams paying freelancers or contractors across multiple banks, bulk transfer eliminates the per-transfer overhead. Prepare the file from your contractor management system, upload it, and confirm.
Quick tips
Always use the preview step: don't skip it, even when you're confident in your file. It takes thirty seconds and catches errors before they become payment problems
Download the CSV template: if you're setting this up for the first time, it gives you the exact format the system expects, which prevents upload errors
Keep your CSV files organized by period: naming files by date (e.g.,
vendor_payouts_aug_2025.csv) makes it easy to match payment batches against your transaction export records laterCheck notifications after processing: the system generates transfer notifications, so you know exactly which transfers have been completed and which need follow-up
Bulk transfer is designed for the teams that move money at volume. If you've been doing this manually, you'll notice the difference immediately.
