Startbutton, the leading Merchant of Record infrastructure platform for Africa, today announced the launch of its Server-to-Server (S2S) Card integration, a premium payment capability designed for merchants who demand complete control over their checkout experience.
As digital commerce matures in Africa, large-scale enterprises find that "hosted checkout" pages—where customers are redirected to a third-party provider to enter card details—can introduce friction and lower conversion rates.
"S2S is about customization and brand integrity," says Julian Oti, Product Manager at Startbutton. "Large merchants don't want to send their customers away to complete a purchase. With S2S, they collect the card details directly on their site, maintain their own branding, and simply use Startbutton as the invisible engine in the background."
Key Highlights:
Native Experience: Customers remain on the merchant's URL throughout the entire transaction.
Major Schemes Supported: Full support for major card schemes including Verve, Visa and Mastercard, enabling both local and international transactions.
Security First: Access to the S2S API is exclusive to merchants who hold PCI DSS certification, ensuring that raw card data is handled with the highest security standards.
This launch follows Startbutton’s own recent PCI certification, a milestone that allows them to process card data directly without relying on third-party redirects.
